understanding customers

Hello, & welcome to our first talking fresh&easy™ blog. Why are we doing it? To give you a chance to find more about who we are and what we stand for, and for us to hear what you have to say about it.

We've based this business on a simple premise - listen to people, understand what they ideally want from a regular food shopping trip, & then try and deliver it better than anyone else.

So before we decided to set up this business, we spent several months just talking to people about food and food shopping, visiting them in their homes, poking around in their pantries (with permission of course), preparing meals and going shopping with them. We even built a mock store in a warehouse and invited people to visit it, to see if we had understood what they wanted correctly.

Out of this has come fresh&easy neighborhood market, which does what it's name implies (we asked people what we should call it):
- it's fresh, with an emphasis on fresher, less processed foods
- it's easy, quick to get in & out of, with convenient solutions for serving fresher, more nutritious food
- it's a market, rather than the size of a full-scale supermarket
- & it's in my neighborhood, so i don't have to travel far

We also found that people want businesses to be considerate, and a place people enjoy working, especially when it's their neighborhood, so we're also setting out to be a good neighbor and a great place to work.

That's then what we think people want for their regular food shopping. We're building a business capable of delivering it (visit our website www.freshandeasy.com to see what it's like), but in the end it will be our customers who determine whether we've got it right when we open in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Diego later this year - and that's how it should be...

Simon,

I really wish you would consider a location in the Southeast Los Angeles area, specifically the City of Commerce. The City of Commerce is business-friendly and located at the crossroads of everything. It also doesn't have a chain supermarket serving it now, so you would have an immediate audience of people who now have to travel several miles to do grocery shopping.

I've shopped at Tesco at your Bournemouth and Poole stores, and while I don't expect stores of that size, I know you'll deliver the same quality. Please check the area - you'll see that we need what you offer.

Are you coming to Colorada? I hear that you are.

Will you sell cigerettes?

Will your buildings be LEED certified?

Are you going to have food tastings so we can taste the quality of the food?

Are you going to have a newletter/loyalty card program to keep us informed and coming back?

I love the Express stores in London so hope you are as good! Good Luck

According To an article in in the local paper (The Daily Bulletin) her in the inland valley, there is a Fresh&Easy sore gong up here in the little town of San Dimas. When will the store be going up?
The corner it will be at has been vacant for sometime now. There used to be a grocery store there back when I moved here in 1979. That store closed and was never replaced and slowly all the other small shops surrounding it closed one by one. It will be nice to see the abonded lot fixed. It has been an eyesore as the owen of the lot really didn't take care of it. I just happen to live right down the street from that lot and can see it from my front door. I have lived here for 28 years in this community and hvae been wondering for years that the heck was going to be done with that lot. Right noe Albertso's is the only store close by and they are espensive. Can you guys do better? Hope to hear from you soon as to when the stor will be built.

I have been to your stores in London and enjoyed them very much. But out here in California everyone is more geared towards health and nutrition. Will you have things like Dynatabs(vitamins in a strip) and other healthy alternatives in Fresh and Easy?

Simon,

After reading your blogs and following your companies progress over the years it is about time that the US will finally have its version of Tesco. I have been to your stores in London and have loved them but here in California everybody is more health conscious. Will Fresh and Easy also have those healthy alternatives such as Dynatabs, vitamins in a strip format which are in places like 711, and other healthy choices?

I hope you come to Chino Hills, California (zip 91709). We are a developing city and retail expansion is booming. Many neigborhood corners are in/or going to be in retail development. You would be a welcomed addition.

I heard on our local San Diego news last night and read in the paper this morning that you are moving into our neighborhood (San Carlos) in that empty space where that other huge supermarket used to be. After reading about your stores and company, I think you will be a much-needed addition to the neighborhood! I can't wait! I just wish you were opening sooner as it looks like the supermarket giants may be striking again. Oh well. Welcome to the neighborhood!

After reading your website and blog I am thrilled you are going to open a new store in my neighborhood (Orange).I'm so tired of the indifference and incompetence at the major stores in my area. Good luck finding employees who are up to the challenge and affordable. While my family and I were in England this summer we experienced shopping at Tesco each week and kept saying to each other, "When are the American supermarkets going catch up to this." The quality (generally great) and affordability is incomparable. If the new Fresh and Easy is anything like that then Americans will not want to go back to their old standard super markets. Thank you Tesco and welcome to the neighborhood Fresh and Easy.

People, why are you so excited about a place you know nothing about?? I was excited too, but almost walked out of my interview after hearing the same corporate BS every other company dishes out. This place will have to do ALOT to impress me at this point.

SOUR GRAPES HERE !!!

REF the last anonymous blogger, one can safely assume he/she was not hired !! Sounds like an attitude problem before the job interview even started. I assure you top management can sort these people out very easily.

99% of the people love Fresh & Easy and are looking forward to their store openings as I am in Tucson and Oro Valley, AZ

I, too, as others have been in England and shopped at Tesco and having had over 25 years in the food business; including retail management at several major grocery chains, I can tell you Fresh and Easy will be a smash hit
notwithstanding, they have done their "homework."

We are patiently waiting for you in Tucson and Oro Valley, AZ. and we wish you every success.
