thank you from fresh & easy

What an extraordinary few days.

On Wednesday morning we got together all our store employees for our Magic Monday (yes, I know, but it's normally a monday!), to talk about how fresh&easy neighborhood market was developed and what kind of business we're trying to be.

Late Wednesday afternoon we held a civic reception and press conference at our Glassell Park store ahead of the opening next morning, to show people around the store.

That evening we held a reception at a local hotel, to say thank you to our suppliers who have helped make this possible.

On Thursday morning at 10am, we held a short opening ceremony at 6 stores, and opened the doors.

Customers flooded in.

When you've given more than 2 years of your life to something, it's difficult to explain just how moving each of these events was, let alone the combination of them.

Of course, we'll find out over the next few weeks whether or not we've got it right, as customers vote with their feet.

But I'd like to thank all our people and all our suppliers for joining us on this adventure...

...and of course the neighborhoods where we've opened for making us feel so welcome.

It's certainly been a few days that I will never forget...

Hi Simon

As a former Tesco employee of 18 years no living in California (thanks to Tesco.com) I just wanted to congratulate you on your openings and wish you, Tim and the rest of the team all the very best for the future.

Great work done although the blog looks like it has an army of editors trying to sound politically correct

I am lucky enough to live in Hemet, CA and I now have a Fresh & Easy less than 5 minutes from my home. I love, love, love your store! Great product and good prices. I will now be purchasing the majority of my food there. Thank you.....Marta Putnam

Hi Simon

Congratulations on your first opennings. Is Fresh & Easy going to implement a local sourcing office and roadshows to seek local suppliers as its parent company Tesco does in England?

This open events are an opportunity to meet the best suppliers and explore possible partnerships.

This program seems to be working well for Tesco who had a 95% approval in the 2007 survey from its suppliers.

Congrats on Tesco starting out in the US. Question: why not stick with the Tesco brand name?

I am a British Expat living in Texas, so would like to see outlets here, but also would be cool if you could offer online store for some of your non-perishable good. Prices are real cheap and would love to have Tesco tea back in my house!!!

Ive worked for Tesco in the UK for 3years now n have been realy interested in the developement n opportunities you have created over in the USA.

After reading some of the blogs i have to say i have found it to be amazing waht going on over their, the only thing that seem odd is what people have posted about why they not been hired n what going to happen in the future without even looking into it, ask for feed back to why you didnt get the job, all i can say is if the hiring way is the same in the US as it is in the UK then it isnt about your skills they can be tought to you it is about your attitude and how you interact with people that is more important after all you are going to be interacting with your customers n if your happy n friendly then thats alot better than someone who doesnt like to interact with there neighbours, just Share a smile, Know your stuff, Treat people how you want to be Treated n you'll go along way

Went to your store for the first time today (Mountain Ave.) While you may not be selling British food, the influence of Tesco's and Marks and Spencer's food hall is easy to see--and that's good.

US stores have not seen the attractive packaging, variety of prepared foods, and even decent looking bread (not spongy like Von's) that F&E has.

Based on a 10-minute walk through, I think you've tapped into something that will make you successful in the U.S.

I am anxiously awaiting the Menifee opening, I live within walking distance.
Fresh and Easy sounds as though they are hurling towards a tower of success. I have posted my resume' & have experience in specialty retail. Look forward to hearing from you... Nanette Dunlop, Menifee Ca.

We went in tonight to check out the latest Vegas store. One of the items we bought were the chewy peanut butter bars with chocolate chips. They looked familiar. Hmm. We got out a box from our pantry, Trader Joes chewy peanut butter bars. Except for the chocolate chips, these are, ingredient by ingredient, the same exact thing.

I love the fresh flower selection at Fresh & Easy! The prices are great! I bought some stargazer lilies; they were so fresh, they lasted nearly 2 weeks with water changes. Fantastic!
