Simon, I loved your store when I visited in Phoenix, AZ. Honestly, I'd shop there all the time based on your fresh/quality food , much lower prices, and simpler philosophy. But your employees don't have the right to a real voice at work - a Union. So now you know. You've lost my business til they do. Lisa in AZ
As an employee of F&E, I'm sorry to read your above comment. We love our customers and they love us. Employees at F&E get far more than a union member gets, For example; a higher starting wage, benefits after 90 days (not one year), 401K with matching funds from day one and a quarterly bonus. PLUS, we don't have to pay union dues. All the team members I have worked with and spoken to LOVE THIS PLACE! It's great to work for a company with real VALUES. Our managers, unlike traditional union stores, do not hide in an office. They work with us, speak with us and respect us. You'd need to offer a truckload of reasons why working for a union would do anything for me but take my hard-earned money dues)and give it to people who don't actually work. Good luck, but I think more grocery union workers will be looking at our opportunities rather than watching their hours get cut, their benefits get cut and their union dues being raised. It seems like the last union strike didn't accomplish much for its members. GO TEAM GREEN!
Love your market. Although I do most of my shopping at Nellis AFB Commissary, I do pick up several items from F&E on a weekly bases. One observation; you sell organic foods and use recyclable materials. How come you use plastic bags instead of recyclable paper bags?
If someone had told me when I left Oxford university that I'd spend most of the next 20 odd years working in food retailing & for one company, I wouldn't have believed them (as it was my mother thought i was mad!). But I was lucky enough to join a company, Tesco plc, that simply believed that you should just listen to what people want & then deliver it better than anyone else - & anyway, for someone who wants to make a difference, everybody has an interest in food...

No offense, but "every little helps" doesn't mean anything in American English.
Save it for Tesco, eh?
