fresh&easy in Compton - 100 days on
The opening of our store in Compton last February was one of those very special moments that will stay with me for a very long time - we were made to feel so welcome.
100 days later, it's great to see that it's proving a simple point.
Although it was the first new grocery store to be built there in a generation, it's performing just like any of our other stores.
It's attracting a broad mix of customers, and it's business is being built on fresh foods - 10 of its 20 top selling products are fresh produce, some organic, and more than 75% of its sales are our own brand, all of which has no artificial colors or flavors, no added transfat, and only uses preservatives when absolutely necessary.
As I've said before, in our experience, if you offer fresh, wholesome foods at prices everyone can afford, in a clean environment with friendly service, people will shop with you.
Compton again demonstrates the point.
And that, of course, is how it should be.....

It's great to see a company that is not fearful of establishing itself in our less affluent communities.
Great!
Great!
great!
Thank you for putting a great store in the Compton area. Even tho I have to travel a few miles to get to it because there isnt on in the 90044 area its worth it. Hope there will be 1 coming to my area real soon!
Why do purchases over $50 by credit card have to be verified at the Compton store?
Have shopped at more than one other Fresh & Easy elsewhere in Southern California and this wasn't the case?
Thanks for answering my question.
I never understand why grocery stores like Trader Joes only want to locate in affluent areas. We had to fight for the Bixby Knolls store and I understand it has one of the highest sales per square foot in the chain. I go to the Del Amo/Paramount store and it seems to have quite good foot traffic, even as compared to some of the nearby Ralphs. I hope you continue to locate in areas that other "upscale" grocers won't touch.
I absolutely love this store.Though, of course, it doesn't have the selection that major grocery chains have, I will gladly purchase all that I can from your store and leave the leftovers for those other guys.I really appreciate the fresh produce and meats that you offer. It is a welcome change to the sub-standard products that we are offered in our neighborhood.Hopefully a store will come to the 90001 area SOON!!!
This store is really neat. I liked the wide variety of meats, esp. fish. The fish looks incredibly fresh and its presentation is excellent.
The prepared meals look delicious. I was pleased to see the Compton store had a sampling booth, everything from cranberry juice to cookies, keeps customers in good spirits.
The store was incredibly clean and organized. And I have to give kudos to customers who are doing their best to keep the store in good shape.
But where is the manicotti? Your pasta selection needs to increase.
FYI: My mom made a credit card purchase over $50 at the Fountain Valley store and it had to be verified by the manager. So this happens in ALL areas, not just in Compton.
