and so it goes, at fresh & easy

We had our most successful opening to date this week, at Manhattan Beach.

This was our first opening since we took our 12 week pause, after we had opened 61 stores at breakneck speed.

We used that time to reflect on what customers had told us they liked, and what they'd like to see improved - and then to improve the shopping trip for them.

For example, customers told us that they really liked our prepared meals, made fresh daily in our purpose-built kitchen, but they wanted a wider selection to choose from. So we've developed and introduced a number of new products for them.

Or again, they told us they really liked how clean and organized our stores are, but for some, they were a little cold, and difficult to understand.

So we've taken the time to introduce a bit more color into all our stores, together with a bit more explanation of what fresh&easy is about.

Of course, you could argue that this is all a sign of weakness, that we had got things wrong. But that would be to misunderstand the way we do business.

Listening, and then acting on it, is in our view the way to build long-term relationships with customers. It means our shopping trip is always improving, and staying in tune with changing needs.

It's a simple win-win. Customers get a better and better shopping trip, and we become more successful.

And that, surely, is how it should be.....

Hi Simon, i'm very excited about the new stores opening up soon. I got hired! So i'm going to be part of the Fresh&Easy team, and i'm really looking forward to it. I am going to be working in the Kitchen Table position, so i'm definitely excited about having my own little kitchen station and sampling our great fresh offerings to our customers. I can't wait to see what will be different about my store once it opens up, especially since you've mentioned the changes the company has gone through to make our customers feel more welcomed at fresh&easy stores opening soon. If any of you work at the Kitchen Table, please let me know, i'd love to know what the job entails and how our customers love our samples. Thank you Simon :-)

Hello,
I've noticed a sign across the street from me that a Fresh and Easy will be opening up but your website doesn't have it listed and I wondered when the store on Wintergardens in Lakeside, CA will open? I go to other locations when I can but having one across the street would be super helpful.

Thanks!

Hi Simon,
Quick question - I've watched them building, hiring for and stocking the new F&E store in San Diego on Catalina - do yu know when the opening day will be? It's right on my way home and I know I'll be a regular.
Thanks,
Sharon

I am a HUGE fan of FRESH & EASY ...and since its now across the street I find myself there at least every other day...and sometimes 2x a day! I have been spreading the word...and a lot of moms I know are soooooo in love with your products! We love the freshness, the healthy ingredients, the variety, and the cost! And the 50% off items...well, you can't beat that!
Favorites: Freshly squeezed orange and tangerine juice , hummus..any kind...fire roasted tomatoes....and most of these things I would have NEVER tried...but there is always a friendly employee making samples...and EVERYTIME is a party in my mouth...so I buy the product! Thank you for opening such a FABULOUS store! Thank you for your original samples that introduce me to new foods...and thank you for your coupons and your friendly employees! Thank you for opening Fresh & Easy in Gilbert, AZ!!!!!! All my friends who come in town are jealous they don't have one in their states!

Tesco PLC sucks, I frequent and have residences both outside London and in Arizona. I'm not too fond with my experiences with Tesco's in the UK, BUT... - so far Fresh & Easy happens to be doing a fantastic job (I'd say) in the USA.... Too bad Fresh & Easy couldn't bring some of its values 'back to heart/home' for Tesco.... start with Tesco Express please; then move to Tesco PLC because their 0800 number sure doesn't listen. PS: this is America, not England - we don't really care that Fresh & Easy is a 'super-green' neighbour.... don't-care. do not care. Chances are your newsletter is made on bleached paper anyway, so who cares if it's recycled? We'll take your British quality food, but leave that Tesco Greenpoints Clubcard Eco crap back in England. Other then that - awesome stores. PS: Everyone in the family adores the British 'wafer thin' meats (ie: Tesco Wafer Thin Turkey, ... competitor ASDA Smoked Honey Gourmet Chicken) - perhaps introduce this kind of product in your stores in the USA? I have seen no stores so far that offer them this side of the Atlantic.

I was very, very excited that I had someone from the OFFICIAL F&E blog "dop in" and I must tell you some of my friends will be VERY JEALOUS. Just a note, I haven't revealed it on my blog yet, but we are moving back home to New England in 6 weeks--and BOO HOO I will MISS F&E!!!

Okay Simon- here are a few things that I couldn't find when I was at F&E the other day. Tahini, flat-leaf parsley and champagne vinegar. I know you guys aren't a specialty store, but I just thought I would let you know what I went looking for. The tahini was for baba ganoush. There were the most beautiful eggplants on sale!

Simon,

I just got back from the Manhattan Beach location and I've got to say I'm very impressed. The store was clean, well organised and everything looks fantastic. I got the Butter Chicken for an early lunch and it was delicious!

My only hope is you open a store somewhere in West LA, as it's not always easy for me to make the drive from Santa Monica to El Segundo.

hey whitney i work at one of our many stores and i just wanted to say that we do infact have tahini. several customers ask me where it is every day. the tahini used to be near the bbq sauce and condiments but it is currently moved to where the peanut butter and jams are. and plz if you ever have trouble finding anything at all dont be afraid to ask anyone wearing a green shirt. all of us are quite friendly.

Hi Simon,
If you were here at my home you would quickly see that I'm a Fresh and Easy loyalist. I'm there almost everyday with my son.

What's the history of Fresh and Easy in a nutshell, and are you the owner, or what?

-Thank you
