How does the sale of Fresh & Easy impact the Friends Rewards Program?

On September 10, 2013, Fresh & Easy announced it is selling Fresh & Easy to The Yucaipa Companies, LLC. We are very pleased that this agreement with Yucaipa preserves more than 4,000 jobs and a vast majority of the business.

We are also pleased to announce that the Friends of fresh&easy Rewards Program (“Friends Rewards”) will be offered by Yucaipa in the stores that Yucaipa will continue to operate. California state law does not allow the transfer of personal information of Friends Rewards members to the new buyer of Fresh & Easy, so you will be required to re-enroll in the Friends Rewards Program over the next several weeks. By re-enrolling, you will continue to earn points on your purchases, and your existing points and rewards balance will be honored. We will be sending instructions on re-enrollment soon.

I shop at one of the stores that has closed. What happens to my Friends account once my store is closed?

Your friends account will remain open for the next several weeks until the sale to The Yucaipa Companies is finalized. Soon, we will provide instructions to all Friends Rewards members on how to re-enroll in the program, which will be operated by Yucaipa. If you would like to continue to be part of the Friends Rewards program, you will be required to re-enroll in the program. Should you elect not to re-enroll in the program by the deadline, your account will be deactivated and you will no longer be able to earn points or use your rewards after the sale of Fresh & Easy to Yucaipa is finalized.

Hooray! My local Fresh & Easy will remain open. What does this mean for me?

You can continue to earn points on your purchases and use your rewards until the sale of Fresh & Easy to The Yucaipa Companies is finalized, just as you do today. After that, Yucaipa will offer Friends Rewards and by re-enrolling, you can continue to receive the benefits of the program.   Soon, we will provide instructions to all Friends Rewards members on how to re-enroll in the program, which will be operated by Yucaipa. If you would like to continue to be part of the Friends Rewards program, you will be required to re-enroll in the program. Why am I required to re-enroll in the Friends Rewards program?

California state law does not allow the transfer of personal information of Friends Rewards members to the new buyer of Fresh & Easy. Yucaipa would like to offer the Friends Rewards program, and in order to do so, state law requires that customers must re-enroll for the program with Yucaipa directly and provide Yucaipa with their personal information. As an incentive to re-enroll in the program, all of your existing points, rewards, and other benefits of the program will be transferred to the new program, operated by Yucaipa. If you choose not to re-enroll, your account will be deactivated upon the closing of the sale to Yucaipa. After the sale, Fresh & Easy will maintain your information so long as needed and will maintain the confidentiality of your information as required by law.
